Globalization has significantly increased the interconnectedness and independence of the world,
which transforms it into a global village. The cultural, economic, intellectual and many other
boundaries ended in multiple clashes around the world. Especially after the 9/11 incident, the
world went through ideological as well as cultural wars (Ang, 2011). Cultural misunderstandings
were formed in the wake of aggressive globalization. People misinterpreted other cultures. The
main objective remained to force researchers to introduce the term cultural intelligence in their
reason and logic (Ang,2011).
At this time, Early and Ang (2011) introduced the term cultural intelligence in the 21st century.
Cultural Intelligence (CQ) is the individuals’ ability to perform their tasks ascribed or otherwise,
efficiently in a systematic manner (Ang,2011). CQ is the competence of an individual to
understand cultural diversity. It is the ability to deliver ideas to individuals linked with multiple
cultural backgrounds and current scenarios.
To understand cultural intelligence (CQ), Early and Ang made 4 ingredients of cultural
intelligence keeping in mind myriad views of intelligence by Sternberg and Detterman
framework (Ang, 2011). These are metacognitive cultural intelligence (MC), cognitive cultural
intelligence (COG), motivational cultural intelligence (MOT), and behavioral cultural
intelligence (BEH). He said that cognitive, metacognitive, and motivational are linked with an
individual’s mental abilities while behavioral one comes from the influence of these three
features of cultural intelligence (CQ). Metacognitive cultural intelligence is an outcome of
individuals’ acquisition, conception and knowledge understanding (Ang, 2011). Cognitive
cultural intelligence (COG) tells how an individual processes knowledge. It depends on the
intellectual level of an individual. Motivational cultural intelligence means the mental ability of
an individual to use one’s energy on knowledge processing. People have used motivational
cultural intelligence mostly in problem-solving and decision-making. Behavioral intelligence
